5G Module Updates

EM91 Maintenance Release (MR) 3 is in progress and this update addresses a potential n41 PA (power amplifier) failure and a Smart Transmit "force peak" issue. The table below shows the versions of firmware progressing through certification and the effort to get the right firmware certified. Issues continued to arise requiring some recertification. MR completion is targeted for March 2024.

Semtech Updates for LTE and 5G Modules

*EM91 MR 4 is already in the pipeline and planned for late 2024.

EM92 (EM9291 and EM9293) is commercially shipping and comes with most of our certifications available. We have received PTCRB, T-Mobile and AT&T certification. We are targeting to complete Verizon's certification in March 2024. In February, we expect to complete Japan TELEC Certification, followed by Telstra in Q2 2024 and Japan Carriers in Q3 2024. Canadian Carrier certification will kick-off Q2 2024.

EM93 commercial availability is set for early 2025. Product possibilities have been loaded into SFDC, including M.2 form factor EM9391 and EM9392 in SDX72 FR1 M.2 form and LA9393 and LA9394 in SDX75 FR1 LGA form. The Semtech sales team is logging opportunities for all variants, which will be evaluated to determine their priority order. The current priority variant based on lead customer engagement is the EM9392. It should be noted that not all product variants may reach engineering commit.

LTE Module Updates

RC71 PV (Production Validation) samples are now being shipped from the factory. We would greatly appreciate your feedback on the samples and any potential business opportunities. We are on schedule to meet our target for July TA. The PTS AT Command Guide is now available on the Source

EM8695 - powered by Qualcomm SDX35 RedCap- will be available as samples in the third quarter of this year. This is a highly anticipated release that will bring advanced LTE and 5G NR global banding support. Additionally, a global M.2 SKU will be available. All SKUs will have USB 2.0 connectivity at launch, please contact us if there are any interests with PCIe interface. At this time, there are no plans to release an LGA version of the EM8695. We are working to expedite sample availability and will continue to update you as more information becomes available.

LPWA Module Updates

Simplify your IoT development with our new HL78 and RC76 Dev Kits, now available. The Get started web pages provide all the details needed to provide hassle-free setup and connectivity, empowering you to create innovative IoT solutions.

HL7810/12 Release 4.1 (Modem version 5.5.8.0) has been approved by both AT&T and Verizon. Additionally, HL7810 and HL7812 R2C SKUs are now shipping with the latest eSIM. R2C v3.0 has a full rich profile eSIM that provides a much better experience for customers. (R2C 2.0 on HL7800/02 has been discontinued.)

We are also working on support for NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks) – NB IoT over Satellite - to HL781x. This feature will enable customers to monitor and control assets in remote locations. Look out for more information in the coming months.

Production is in full swing for GL7812! GCF and PTCRB approvals are complete, while we continue to make progress with AT&T and Verizon.

HL79 – our next gen LPWA Module based on the Sony ALT1350 is in development and will support newer 3GPP releases. The big advantage is much lower power consumption. If you have customers that may be interested in HL7900 samples let us know. We are planning for first commercial availability end of June.
