Digi International Launches New IX Series Cellular Routers with Private LTE Networking in Mind

Earlier this year, Digi International, a leading provider of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and connectivity products, announced that they have launched new versions of their Digi IX10 cellular router. The enhanced router enables electric utilities to deploy private LTE networks (PLT) / private cellular networks (PCN) utilizing the CBRS Band 48 shared spectrum or Anterix Band 8 900 MHz licensed spectrum. This expansion of Digi's portfolio of solutions supports the growing demand for PLTE in the utility market.

By partnering with Anterix - the nation’s largest holder of licensed spectrum in the 900 MHz band - Digi’s PNC routers will be able to integrate with Anterix’s Active Ecosystem to help utilities achieve secure, resilient and customer-controlled operations. The new version of the Digi IX10 expands the PLTE/PCN device portfolio and - in conjunction with Digi Remote Manager - expands upon Digi’s ability to provide the critical yet affordable connectivity needed by stakeholders in the electric utilities industry.

Digi IX10 for PCN Applications

The Digi IX10 cellular router is a reliable and long-lasting device that offers flexibility and cost-effectiveness to electric utilities, smart-grid equipment manufacturers, and other organizations needing secure data transmission over PLTE/PCN. As an OnGo Alliance-listed device, it offers full-featured functionality to support various industrial applications and is particularly well-suited for applications such as metering, remote instrumentation, EV charging, solar farms, and other electric utilities that demand enhanced intelligence, visibility, and edge computing capabilities.

It's specifically designed for the industrial and utilities sectors and caters to a variety of use cases, including:

  • transmission and distribution automation,
  • grid asset connectivity,
  • metering,
  • power quality monitoring,
  • remote instrumentation,
  • EV charging, solar farms.

It's also a powerful solution for other utility applications that require increased intelligence, visibility, and edge computing capabilities.
