Update to ALEOS 4.15.0 Required

AirLink® GX450 & RV50 CRITICAL SOFTWARE UPDATE

It has been determined that certain configurations of North American AirLink® GX450 and RV50 devices, that use active combination GPS + cellular antennas, can lead to the emission of spurious radio signals that may impact the performance of other nearby GPS receivers. Devices will require an immediate update to ALEOS 4.15.0.

Summary of Issue

  1. This issue only affects GX450 and RV50 devices that use actively biased combination GPS + cellular antennas and its occurrence is dependent on the characteristics of the antenna. This issue does not occur on AirLink® RV50X or RV55 devices.
  2. Sierra Wireless has released a software work-around in GX450 ALEOS release 4.9.6 and RV50 ALEOS release 4.15.0 that prevents the spurious emissions from the combination antenna.
  3. Disabling or turning off the GPS when an active combination antenna is connected is not sufficient. The GPS antenna must also be disconnected for this to be effective.

This critical release includes the following changes:

  1. Disabling the Dynamic Power Optimization for the GPS
  2. Powering off the GPS antenna bias when the GPS is disabled
  3. Enabling by default the ability to intelligently control GPS antenna bias

It is critical that all North American GX450 and RV50 customers using combination antennas upgrade to the new ALEOS releases immediately to prevent interference with other nearby GPS receivers. Failure to perform this update may impact other nearby GPS receivers. This critical bulletin has been distributed to all GX450 and RV50 customers registered on the Source.

  • AirLink® RV50 Affected SKUs:
    • 1102555, 1102556

Recommended Actions

Sierra Wireless recommends upgrading to the latest ALEOS version for your gateway.

For devices that cannot be upgraded that are running ALEOS 4.9.0 and later, Sierra Wireless recommends setting “Services: ALMS: HTTP Server And ACEview Services” to “Disable.”

Critical updates are available on The Source and ALMS:

  • GX450 ALEOS release 4.9.6 (available now)
  • RV50 ALEOS release 4.15.0 (expected release date July 31 2021)
