USAT Delivers Portable and Versatile Emergency ConnectivityCASE STUDY | The Bernalillo County Emergency Management Department (BCEM) operates a state-of-the-art emergency management system to help effectively coordinate the use of county, state and federal resources to protect the lives and health of county citizens and visitors from the effects of natural or human-caused disasters.
To further their efforts, they began to research solutions that could provide backup connectivity during events that can result in power or internet outages to ensure the continuity of their operations. They also wanted a solution that could provide connectivity in the field.
After reaching out to the team at USAT, we were able to customize our portable emergency networking solution, the USAT TRaCK Box, to fit their organizations’ exacting needs.
“We had a major network outage at County HQ, and we deployed our two TRaCK Boxes” said Thomas Walmsley. “Our IT Director was very happy with the performance and is looking to purchase some more as backups.”
Multiple Use Cases
Emergency preparedness includes maintaining emergency operations plans, training employees and citizens, and coordinating mutual aid resources. Emergency management departments are on call 24/7 for both small and large-scale situations such as natural disasters, technological disasters, hazardous materials releases, and acts of terrorism. Also, many emergency management departments help plan for pop-up and emergency network connectivity at local and county events to ensure communications are available should the need arise.

Back-Up Connectivity
A myriad of events can cause your network to go down when you need it most. Network congestion, accidental cuts to fiber lines, power outages, hardware failures, and more can take mission critical services offline. Such a network outage occurred within the BCEM Headquarters. Luckily, they had two TRaCK Boxes on hand to keep their vital life-saving operations up and running.
Pop-Up Networking
Enjoyable occasions arise where government organizations need reliable connectivity for non-emergency operations. The BCEM was able to bring TRaCK Boxes to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, providing their people an instant pop-up network with Verizon LTE. “This was the first year we did not have any connectivity issues” reported Mr. Walmsley.
