The Challenge
Secure and Reliable Police Vehicle Communications
Marta needs to ensure that all law enforcement vehicles have reliable communications across the entire city. Vehicles need to support real-time video streaming from officer body-cams and dash-cams (like those made by Motorola and WatchGuard), and real-time voice and data exchanges supporting officer radios (LMR), laptops, cell phones and vehicle data including navigation and driver behavior. Vehicle communications must be secure and easy to update with the latest security patches.
The Solution
5G Routers and Antennas for Law Enforcement Vehicles
For a dual-radio XR90, we paired three separate ruggedized IP67 rated fakra-enabled antennas to maximize internal and external WiFi, boost cellular signal strength, and utilize Bluetooth capabilities. The LTMWG944 ultra-wide band antenna from Mobile Mark is a 9-in-1 antenna that provides 4x4 MIMO cellular coverage, 4x4 MIMO WiFi (for outside of the vehicle), and GPS Glonass connectivity. The LTMW944, is an 8-in-1 antenna that provides 4x4 MIMO 5G LTE and 4x4 MIMO WiFi (for inside of the vehicle). Lastly, the MRM3 provides Bluetooth connectivity for specific applications.
The Results
Improved Communications, Security, and Reliability
With the AirLink XR90 and AirLink Management Service (ALMS) Marta knows that each router installed within all her law enforcement vehicles is working properly and has the latest security updates. Using ALMS Advanced Mobility Reporting (AMR), the department is improving vehicle routing and is documenting vehicle positioning. All officers can better communicate using their LMRs and simplify depot video downloads using the XR90’s Wi-Fi radios.
