Digi SureLink Provides “Always On” Connectivity
Maintaining constant network connections is imperative for seamless communication in the fast-paced world of wireless technology. Wireless connections often face challenges such as signal loss due to fading, interference, or moving obstructions. Updates in carrier networks can also lead to devices seemingly vanishing without notification. The conventional approach of restarting devices to reestablish connections is unreliable and inconvenient, especially when dependability is crucial.
Digi SureLink® addresses these challenges with its unique "keep-alive" function, ensuring that connections remain intact when needed, regardless of data inactivity. This feature is particularly essential for host-initiated applications, where a failed connection attempt can leave users in the dark.
Digi cellular products leverage SureLink capabilities to maintain an "always-on" connection, minimizing drops in connectivity. The system employs a programmable inactivity timer and a proactive link integrity function. Digi SureLink goes a step further with link integrity monitoring, offering three test options: Ping, TCP Connection, and DNS Lookup.
Configuring Digi SureLink
Digi SureLink is an optional feature designed to monitor the integrity of established network connections, currently supported for cellular communications. SureLink settings are off by default and need to be enabled and configured to optimize performance.
Link Integrity Monitoring Settings
These settings enable or disable link integrity monitoring tests, ensuring the functional integrity of mobile connections. Various tests are available, including:
Ping Test
Validates mobile connection integrity by sending up to 30 ping requests and checking for valid replies.
- Primary Address: First host to test.
- Secondary Address: Second host to test if the first host fails.
TCP Connection Test
Creates a new TCP connection to verify mobile connection integrity, waiting up to 30 seconds for success.
- TCP Port: The TCP port number to connect to on the remote host. The default is 80.
DNS Lookup Test
Uses DNS lookup to verify mobile connection integrity by checking for a valid reply from a DNS server.
- Primary Test Hostname: The first hostname to look up.
- Secondary Test Hostname: The second hostname to look up if the first fails.
Device Cloud Connection Test
Verifies Device Cloud connection integrity, successful if a connection can be established to the configured Digi Device Cloud server.
Additional Configuration Options
Digi SureLink's meticulous configuration options empower users to tailor their connectivity preferences, ensuring a reliable and always-on network experience.
- Repeat the selected link integrity test every N seconds: Specify the interval for repeating link integrity tests.
- Test only when idle if no data is received for the above period of time: Initiates link integrity tests only after no data has been received for a specified interval, optimizing data exchange over the mobile connection.
- Reset or Reconnect the link after the following number of consecutive link integrity test failures: Specifies actions to be taken after a certain number of consecutive failures, either resetting the cellular modem or reconnecting the mobile interface.
