AirLink XR Series GNSS Issue
Description of Issue
Sierra Wireless has identified a hardware issue with a limited number of XR routers that affects the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The issue is indicated by a flashing red GNSS LED on a powered router, even when a known-good active GNSS antenna is connected.
This problem is specific to routers within a certain range of serial numbers.
If you rely on GNSS functionality and your router is displaying this symptom, it is recommended that you return your router for a replacement. If you don't require GNSS, it is suggested to disable the GNSS function as a precautionary measure.
Instructions on how to disable GNSS can be found in Appendix C of the documentation.
You have two options:
- Return your router if it falls within the affected serial number range.
- Verify if your router is unaffected by following the verification process outlined in the documentation.
By following either the verification process or the replacement process, you can ensure that your router is either confirmed as unaffected or replaced if it is affected.
Verification Process
Routers shipped after July 1, 2023 are not affected by the issue and do not require verification.
Only specific XR router models with certain serial numbers are affected, which can be found in the provided information. If you are unsure about how to check if your router is affected, it is recommended to contact your authorized reseller for assistance.
- To determine if your XR router is affected, you need to locate the serial number printed on both the router device label and the router retail box label.
The serial number is a 16-character identifier, and the relevant fields for identification are the date code and factory code. - If the factory code (the fourth character from the right) is not "F," then your router is unaffected and can be used normally.
- If the factory code is "F," you need to check the date code (the 3rd to 5th characters) to determine if your router is affected.
- Affected routers have a factory code "F" and a date code of 319 or lower.
- Unaffected routers have a date code of 320 or higher.
If your router has a factory code "F" and a date code of 319 or lower, you have two options:
- Verify your router using the verification process outlined in the previous information.
- Return your affected router for replacement using the replacement process described below.
Replacement Process
If you have an affected XR router and need to return it for a replacement, follow the steps below:
- Initiate the replacement process by sending an email to repairs@sierrawireless.com. In the email, include the following information:
- Clearly state the problem as "RMA DOA - Airlink XR Series GNSS Issue."
- Indicate the quantity of replacement routers you require urgently. Sierra Wireless will prioritize urgent requests.
- Provide the serial numbers of the affected routers.
- Include the return address where the replacement routers should be shipped.
- Sierra Wireless will provide prepaid shipping labels for the return shipment.
- Pack and ship all the affected routers to Sierra Wireless using the provided prepaid shipping labels.
It is important to note the following deadlines:
- Return requests must be submitted by August 30, 2023.
- Affected routers must be shipped back to Sierra Wireless by October 31, 2023.
- All in-warranty confirmed-affected routers are anticipated to be replaced by the end of November 2023, with timing dependent on the returned SKU mix and quantity. Customers can email repairs@sierrawireless.com for updates.
