About ACM 3.0
The latest version of ACM, version 3.0, now runs on Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS and includes important security fixes. This release offers two configurations: FIPS and non-FIPS. We highly advise all current ACM 2.1 customers (FIPS) and ACM 2.2 customers (non-FIPS) to upgrade to ACM 3.0, ensuring enhanced security and improved performance.
Upgrade Methods
Important: A direct upgrade to ACM 3.0 can only be performed from ACM 2.1 (FIPS) or ACM 2.2 (non-FIPS). Customers on previous ACM releases will need to first upgrade to ACM 2.1 (FIPS) or ACM 2.2 (non-FIPS) before upgrading to ACM 3.0.
There are three installation options for ACM 3.0:
- ACM 3.0 (FIPS) - For upgrading from an existing ACM 2.1 (FIPS) installation.
- ACM 3.0 (non-FIPS) - For upgrading from an existing ACM 2.2 (non-FIPS) installation.
- New Instance - This is for setting up a fresh installation of ACM 3.0, and you can also port over configuration components from the previous version.

Server Platform Support
ACM 3.0 has undergone thorough testing on VMs running on VMware vSphere 6.5 (ESXi 6.5) or later versions. For new ACM installations, you can now opt for VMs running on VMware vSphere 7.
To ensure optimal performance, the ESXi server device must meet the following minimum specifications, supporting up to 1000 concurrent active tunnels with a tunnel creation rate of 100 tunnels per minute:
- vCPU cores: 8 dedicated cores
- vRAM size: 16 GB
- Available hard disk space: 16 GB
Note: If you need to support a larger number of concurrent tunnels, you'll require additional vCPU cores, vRAM, and hard disk space.
Note: ACM 3.0 (FIPS) is FIPS-compliant and meets the security requirements of the Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2, security level 1. You can find more information about this compliance here.
New Features
- Operating System: Moved to Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS from Debian. Includes the latest packages and security fixes that were released in February 2023.
Addressed Issues
- ACM Configuration: An issue has been remediated that had previously occurred when creating an additional admin user. When committing the change the system would not commit any additional configuration changes and would report “Failed to generate committed config.”
- Logging: Resolved an issue that caused TCP connections to be logged when conntrack TCP logging was not enabled. Also resolved an issue that caused Vyatta auth.log files to grow too large and exhaust available disk space.
Known Issues
- Dynamic DNS (DDNS): The DNS data for a small number of connected gateways (~5%) may be temporarily incorrect if a network issue interrupts communication between ACMs in the DDNS cluster. The affected data recovers when IPsec tunnels change state.
