Select AirLink Routers Transition to Gen2
Semtech has officially announced significant updates to their AirLink XR80 and XR90 router product lines. These changes focus on transitioning from the Gen1 EM9190 and EM7690 5G modules to the next-generation EM9293 5G modules, marking the end-of-life (EOL) phase for the Gen1 versions.
Here's what end-users need to know about the transition, timelines, and product benefits.
Key Changes and Enhancements
Introduction of the EM9293 Module
The new EM9293 5G module offers superior capabilities, including expanded carrier combinations and increased cellular throughput speeds:
- Downlink Speed: Up to 4.5 Gbps
- Uplink Speed: Up to 900 Mbps
The updated routers will come with new part numbers, rolling out in H1 CY2025.
Product Compatibility
Gen1 XR80/90 antennas and accessories will remain fully compatible with the new Gen2 EM9293 routers, ensuring a seamless upgrade for existing setups.
Product Milestones
Last Time Buy: June 30, 2025
Purchase orders for Gen1 routers (EM9190/EM7690-based) will only be accepted until this date, subject to availability.
Last Time Ship: December 31, 2025
The final shipment for Gen1 routers can be requested up to this date.
Support and Maintenance Timeline
Semtech has outlined a phased maintenance approach for Gen1 products:
Active Software Maintenance
- From December 31, 2025, to December 31, 2026.
- Includes bug fixes and security patches (no new features).
Critical Software Maintenance
- From December 31, 2026, to December 31, 2028.
- Updates will address only critical issues as per Semtech’s software vulnerability policies.
End of Software Maintenance
- No software updates will be provided after December 31, 2028.
End of Warranty and Repairs
- Standard product warranties end on December 31, 2028.
- Extended warranties and repair services will conclude on December 31, 2030.
